My Landmine
Every morning I jump out of bed and step on a landmine. The landmine is me. After the explosion, I spent the rest of the day putting the pieces together.
Ray Bradbury
Here’s a blast-from-the-past article by The Oatmeal about his favorite creature, the mantis shrimp, done in the cartoon strip “Why The Mantis Shrimp Is My New Favorite Animal ”. While humans have three types of color-receptive cones used in our vision to see the world in color, the mantis shrimp has 16. What do they see with all that color receptiveness? Maybe it’s to help track their front limbs’ ability to strike prey with the force of a .22 caliber bullet, an act where “their limbs move so quickly the water around them boils in a process known as supercavitation.” Neat.
